Smartleggio 1.1 is released!

The new version of Smartleggio has been released and is now available for installation. This update adds two new features to the app: page navigation and bookmark controls and a possibility to choose which staves should be used for playback and position tracking.

Navigation controls

The navigation controls panel is available via the top-right button of the score screen and provides a way to jump to a certain place in a score via bookmarks or by selecting a page number. Bookmarks can be added, edited or removed from this panel. Predefined bookmarks (for the beginning and the end of a score) are also available there for each score.

Staff selection

Staff selection is available in the settings panel of the score screen. This feature allows choosing which staves will be used for playback and position tracking, which may be useful in scores including more than one instrument or just for hearing or practicing certain parts of a score. Selected staves are controlled separately for position tracking and playback, and currently are not saved between sessions. In future versions we plan to add a possibility to preserve selection of staves (as well as other settings) on a per-score basis.

Future plans

We will continue to add more features to the app in future updates. A particular attention will be dedicated to improving the recognition of PDF scores. The current state of this functionality is considered experimental and lets Smartleggio provide position tracking in many PDF scores. However in many scores it still makes errors that prevent position tracking from working properly, and in many other scores it produces lots of audible mistakes (although playback wasn’t designed as the main goal of this OMR facility). Improving the recognition quality will be one of the main priorities in the future development, although we will continue to improve other areas of the app’s functionality as well.
